Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system).

Chiropractors are trained to ensure your nervous system functions properly. The head and spine are the first areas of your nervous system that can become irritated and inflamed, causing pain, numbness, tingling and burning. Chiropractors use manipulations to the spine and joints of the body to restore your body to proper health. This allows for better motion of these joints so that you can move like you were designed to move.

At Sunshine Medical Centers, we address whole body wellness. We believe the body has the ability to heal itself with minimal assistance from medicine or surgery. We also realize that every patient has a unique set of circumstances and patterns that make them individuals. We treat each patient as an individual, not as an average or a deviant from average.

Techniques Used

We use all techniques that are appropriate for your care. Each of these methods help address the patient’s specific issue and target certain areas to help alleviate any pain or discomfort and increase mobility, elasticity and range of motion.

Applied Kinesiology (A.K.)

Applied Kinesiology is a tool that utilizes the neuromuscular system through manual muscle testing to access the patient's underlying problem and to assist us in accurately formulating an appropriate treatment plan. This technique is used in conjunction with other exams to evaluate the patient's overall condition.

Diversified Adjustment Technique

This is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one most familiar to patients. The diversified adjustment entails a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust that usually results in a cavitation of a joint (quick, shallow thrusts that causes a popping noise often associated with a chiropractic adjustment). As the name implies, the diversified technique can be used to adjust many of the joints of the body.

Total Body Modification (TBM)

TBM is a technique that aids the body in its natural capacity to heal itself. The goal of this treatment is to restore balance to the nervous system. With this treatment, we utilize reflex points and muscle testing to locate the problem and then stimulate the area involved to repair communication with the brain thus allow the body to heal.

Extremity Management and Rehabilitation

Extremities can also become misaligned or unbalanced. Through muscle testing, the doctors are able to uncover the source of the problem and adjust the segment accordingly. Extremities include the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, pelvis, knee, ankle, and foot. We use a soft tissue system that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

Rehabilitation/Spinal Stabilization Exercise Technique

These are exercises prescribed by the doctor to compliment the adjustment and to strengthen the muscles and help maintain proper spinal alignment.

Neuroemotional Technique (NET)

A person's health is made up of three components: structural, biochemical, and emotional well being. NET addresses the emotional component of health. Significant events in our lives have an impact on us both emotionally as well as physically. Negative emotions can sometimes take root in our bodies and manifest themselves in physical problems such as spinal subluxations.

Activator Technique

The Activator method is the least physical form of adjusting. It is a low force adjusting technique that utilizes an adjusting instrument rather than the traditional hands-on technique.

SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique)

SORSI is a non profit 501c3 organization whose goal is to educate and provide research for the Sacro Occipital Technique (or Technic) and the craniopathic chiropractic technique known as the SOT® method. Founded in 1929, SORSI is the premier organization for SOT® method education, research, and certification.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on method for evaluating and correcting problems affecting the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system provides the environment in which your brain and spinal cord develop and function. These organs are the core of your being. Without them, senses, emotions, and motor functions would be inoperable. Examination is done by testing for movements in various parts of the system. When testing is concluded and the restricting obstacle removed, the system is able to return to its natural state. Many conditions respond to this form of treatment.

Cox Flexion Distraction Technique

This technique is extremely effective in treating chronic and acute lumbar pain. Cox uses a special traction table to decompress the intervertebral discs and joints. Patients who have been diagnosed with a slipped, bulging, or herniated disc can benefit from this technique.
